Noemma's Morning To Do Ritual

Merini.io

We had an opportunity to sit down with our neighbor Noemma, when we caught her beautiful notebook setup out of the corner of our eye and asked her if she'd be willing to talk about it.

Here are the big takeaways from the interview:

  • She writes down her to-do list every morning, it helps her clear her head, and prepare for the day.

  • If a to-do list item doesn't get finished, it get's "pulled forward" and she'll rewrite it the next time she makes a to-do list.

  • She says the system is 90% of the way there, but feels negatively when she procrastinates on a large item and it is repeatedly pulled forward. (Our suggestion… make it smaller. What's the first step in the larger task that you can actually get done?)

Other tidbits:

  • Meeting notes and other thoughts get mixed in with the notebook. They aren't necessarily there for reference, but writing them down helps her process.

Key Physical Notebook Detail:

We're paper lovers, so we've got to talk about some details of the physical notebook itself.

  • She's using a a type of notebook called a "diskbound" note book. The pages have small notches by each ring, that let you pull out the pages without needing to open the rings up. More importantly, the diskbound notebook can lie completely flat when folded over. She says showing a single page at a time is "less overwhelming"

How She Got Started

  • In grad school, she found that she needed to be more organized, and started writing to-do lists to stay on top of things.

Thanks for sharing Noemma!
